About me
Jovan Pavlović first encountered the accordion when he was just five years old, watching a televised performance that captivated him. He mimicked the musician’s movements, pretending to play along with his little fingers—so convincingly that his parents took notice. They soon bought him his first instrument, a small Weltmeister accordion with 48 bass buttons, and he began informal playing at home.
By the time he was six, his parents recognized his growing interest and musical aptitude. They enrolled him in lower music school (“niža muzička škola”) in Belgrade, where he started formal accordion lessons and soon began competing in classical accordion events.
While studying in Serbia, Jovan won the national Best Performer award in classical accordion competitions four times.
He earned a full scholarship to the Norwegian Music Conservatory in Trondheim in 1994, helping launch his international career. In 2010, the regional government of Sør-Trøndelag in Norway unanimously named him Artist of the Year, accompanied by a grant of 150,000 NOK to support his musical projects—highlighting his influence on cultural life in central Norway. In 2020, he was awarded the affectionate and prominent title “Artist of the City of Trondheim”, the city's top cultural recognition, which included approximately €23,000 in prize money to support further artistic endeavors.Several albums and collaborative works he contributed to have received or been associated with the Spellemannprisen(the Norwegian Grammy)—a testament to his quality in modern/world/jazz music contexts
